Principal Bios

Wendy Waite -

Wendy Waite has been a resource development consultant for non-profit organizations for the past ten years, bringing in millions of dollars to local organizations, and has worked in the nonprofit sector for 35 years. She has held multiple management and administrative positions at such organizations as Park Ridge Youth Campus in Chicago, Illinois; Utah Youth Village in Salt Lake City, Utah; Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska and Las Vegas, Nevada; and Olive Crest Foster Family Agency in Las Vegas. Wendy holds an M.A. Degree in Human Development from the University of Kansas. She has served on several Boards including ALS of Nevada, HopeLink, and the CASA Foundation, earning the President’s Award from the latter. Founding W8Group in 2004 was the synchronistic culmination of her experience, education and passion.

Thomas Waite -

Thomas Waite has worked in non-profits his entire career from direct care to President/CEO. His past thirty+ years of experience have provided the opportunity to effectively supervise and managed numerous staff; build, develop, and manage an influential Board of Directors; interact with legislators; create efficient operational systems; design and lead fundraising events and activities; interact with stakeholders and potential funders; prepare grants; and provide evaluation and comprehensive data tracking. Mr. Waite holds a M.A. Degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Missouri. He has served on numerous Boards and government appointed committees and work groups.

Karen Nelson -

A freelance editor and print designer with clients across the United States, Karen Nelson works from her farmhouse in south-central Nebraska. She has 16 years of experience editing and designing newspapers, including as copy chief for a daily newspaper. Karen holds a bachelor's degree in math and chemistry and volunteers at her church and her children's school.

Katie Atkinson -

A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Katie has been working in and around non-profit organizations for the majority of her life, being involved in fundraising, general operations, marketing, and volunteer management over the course of her professional career. Her work in the not-for-profit world has taken her all over the world and put her feet in everything from faith-based organizations to education projects, the arts, and humanitarian efforts. Most recently, Katie worked on the marketing team that opened the world-renowned Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, NV. A born writer and communicator, Katie is thrilled to be with the W8Group, helping fund non-profit organizations as they serve their communities. Currently, Katie lives in Germany with her husband, Tom, and their boxer puppy, Penny.

Jenny Fay -

Jenny Fay has worked in the nonprofit world for 14 years. She has done extensive work with volunteer recruitment, management, and development. She is also experienced in fund-raising and vision-casting. Jenny is passionate about people making a difference in our world. With a master’s degree, Jenny is excited to put her skills to work to help non-profits find the funding they need to move their missions forward. She currently lives in Las Vegas with her husband and two cats. Jenny is the City Director of The Cupcake Girls, a nonprofit that provides confidential support to people in the sex industry as well as after care to those who have been domestically sex trafficked.

Elle Waite

Elle Waite recently graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in research and Women’s Studies. She will be attending University of Massachusetts, Amherst Campus to pursue her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, researching adolescents and young adults with emotion regulation disorders. Involved with W8group for a few years, she is now involved in the researching, writing, and editing aspects of grant writing.

Sara L. Patten -

Sara has been working with the W8Write group since 2011. She came to us with seven years’ experience in the non-profit world, working with at-risk teens in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. Sara has a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Brigham Young University and, as an educator, has a lifelong love of learning. Her writing skills are coupled with a strong skill set in graphic design, in which she has done freelance work for more than 15 years. Sara, her husband, and four children called Las Vegas home for ten years until the end of 2016 when careers took them north where they are now happily settled near Boise, Idaho.

Tara Heil -

Tara Heil joins W8Group as a freelance editor with experience in writing, editing, proofreading and design gained through a career as a copy and layout editor at a daily newspaper. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism. Tara has done extensive work in fundraising and promotion for a literacy council through various board positions over the course of 12 years. She is involved in her church and enjoys working with young children.
